The world-renowned R&D teams at Xerox PARC have been developing new technologies designed to address many of the most complex and hard-to-solve challenges in the Cleantech sector.  The Mechanical Design Engineer for Cleantech is a newly created role that will work closely with the VP and Head of the Cleantech Business Unit and the R&D team at PARC to bridge novel technologies into productization in Xerox’s new Cleantech Business. 

This role offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of innovation for Cleantech solutions and be a part of creating and launching cutting edge technology. 


Responsibilities:

  • Lead all aspects of product design for a new product introduction of a line of novel and highly efficient HVAC modules
  • Build and manage mechanical design team and coordinate design team’s interactions with product management, fluids/thermal SMEs, R&D, reliability, manufacturing/assembly, and other interdisciplinary groups
  • Create and manage a phase-based design development process including stage-gated design release process, product data management, version controls, optional component/feature mapping, etc.
  • Lead efforts in design-for-manufacturing, design-for-cost, and design-for-reliability to meet stringent cost and durability requirements for high-volume production runs
  • Work closely with product management, market research, and OEM partners to create world-class user experience for end-users and builders/contractors that install and maintain equipment
  • Initiate and provide high-level support for later-phased product development, e.g., contract manufacturing, sustaining engineering, etc.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or directly adjacent field of study
  • >10 years experience in product design and development, mechanical design and design for manufacturing
  • >5 years design team management experience
  • Experience with new product introduction from R&D phase on hardware-intensive product; Demonstrated history of direct and significant design contributions to new hardware products 
  • Strong critical thinking skills; ability to deep-dive cause-effect and perform complex troubleshooting/diagnostics
  • Ability to identify and creatively explore solution space to identify innovative solutions to challenging design problems
  • Structured problem-solving skills leveraging inputs such as functional documentation (e.g., P&IDs, electrical schematics) to surface and explore key design requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of a wide array of manufacturing processes, e.g., sheet forming (plastic and metal), roll forming, die cutting, injection molding, machining, welding, etc.
  • Extensive experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Mastery of parametric CAD skills (Solidworks preferred)
