Purpose:
We are seeking a highly talented Cybersecurity Intern eager to gain experience in maintaining the security and integrity of global information systems. By proactively monitoring, detecting, and responding to security events, the intern will be part of a team that maintains a vigilant and responsive security posture. This role offers invaluable experience in protecting sensitive data, learning investigation techniques, and developing real-world skills using cutting-edge security tools, techniques, and applications.
Scope:
As a Cybersecurity Incident Response Intern, you will primarily focus on monitoring and investigating security alerts, applying analysis techniques, and documenting findings in an event case management system. You will work closely with Senior Incident Responders and Cyber Threat Intelligence to ensure timely and effective insight and resolution of real-world security issues. The intern will be trained on policies, security tools, threat & attack vector concepts, analysis techniques, artifact collection, reporting, and other skills required to conduct cybersecurity investigations.
Influence:
As an XCS intern, you will gain invaluable experience in resolving actual security incidents, engaging with IT and end-users on remediation best practices, and enforcing security policies and standards.
What to Expect:
- Experience investigating security events using cutting-edge security tools and technologies, including endpoint, cloud, email, web application firewalls, and external attack surfaces.
- Gain hands-on experience using analysis techniques to analyze security logs and artifacts to determine impact and root cause.
- Exposure to cyber threat intelligence/threat hunting and the impact of asset exploitation.
- Continuous collaboration to reinforce skills maturity while fostering cybersecurity teamwork.
- Opportunities to engage with business stakeholders and provide remediation guidance.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest cybersecurity threats and trends.
- Identifying and applying skills in key phases of the Incident Response Lifecycle
Requirements:
- Pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Data Science.
- Must be able to work a 40-hour work week (Monday-Friday) between May 28th - August 8th.
Preferred Skills:
- Basic knowledge of network security tools and firewall analysis techniques to identify anomalies.
- Foundational knowledge of endpoint detection & response tools and search queries to aid investigations.
- Foundational knowledge of datacenter environments and cloud infrastructures (AWS, Azure)
- Exposure to security incident and event management platform capabilities and query formulation
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell).
